Mother's Day Thoughts

When I wrote in her card on mother's day I told my mom that I was so thankful that she had been a "mean mom" and this is what I meant.

Was your Mom mean?
I know mine was.

We had the meaneast mother in the whole world!
While other kids ate cake and candy for breakfast,
we had to have cereal, eggs and oatmeal.

When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch, we had to eat sandwiches
and guess what our dinner was, yep, different from what other kids had
We actually had to eat from all of the food groups.

She had the nerve to break the Child Labor Laws by making us work.
We had to wash the dishes, make the beds, learn to cook, vacuum the floors,
do laundry, empty the trash, mow the grass, and all sorts of other cruel jobs.
I think she would lie awake at night thinking of more things for us to do.

Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times
You'd think we were convicts in a prison!
She had to know who our friends were & what we were doing with them.
Where we were going and when we would be back!

She insisted on us telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth
and if we didn't "our sins would find us out".
By the time we were teenagers she could read our minds
and she had eyes in the back of her head!

Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk the horn when they drove up
they had to come to the door so she could meet them.
While everyone else could date when they were 12 or 13,
we had to wait until we were 16 - gasp!

Because of our mother we missed out on lots of things other kids experienced.
Like.....none of us were caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's property,
arrested for any crime or pregnant. It was all her fault.

It was also her fault that we were in church every Sunday morning,
Sunday evening and Wednesday, that we memorized scripture verses,
that we had family devotions, and most of all, that each of us
came to know Jesus as our Savior.

I think this is what's wrong with the world today
It just doesn't have enough mean moms!

Doing my best to be a mean mom too,
Leah
